March 1st, 2007 at 22:05Earlier this week, the Legal Services Corporation announced the amounts of this year’s legal aid grants. Idaho Legal Aid Services, Idaho’s lone LSC grantee, will be getting the same number of dollars that it got last year. Curious, I thought I’d pull together this chart showing ILAS’s grant amounts, adjusted for inflation and per capita, over the past five years:

The final bar is based on a (conservative) projection for Idaho’s 2007 population. Also, if you’re wondering, the real number of dollars (unadjusted) of the ILAS LSC grants has not gone up since 2004. Idaho’s population has gone up in all of those years, and it will likely continue to. This year, ILAS has had a campaign to get the State of Idaho to provide funding; Idaho is one of only six states that don’t fund legal aid. So far, I have not seen such a bill show up in the legislature. A resolution put to the Idaho State Bar for support of the state funding initiative passed, though 25% of the voting membership voted against it.
